What we keep, and why.

Last updated October 15, 2026

The Camera Book is a free book that explains your camera. This page says what we store about you, why, how long we keep it, and how to delete it. The short version: we keep what we need to give you the book and to know how it is being read. We do not sell it, and we do not show you ads.

What you give us

  • Your email address, so you can sign in.
  • Your name, so we can greet you.
  • Your camera brand and model, so we know which cameras the book needs to cover.
  • A password, if you choose one. It is stored scrambled (hashed), and nobody can read it, including us.

If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and email address and nothing else.

What the site records

  • When you signed up and when you last signed in.
  • Which chapters you opened, and when, so the book can pick up where you left off.
  • When you print pages or download the PDF.
  • The code on the QR card you scanned, if you came in that way, so we know which box or campaign brought you.

We count QR scans, but a scan on its own is not linked to you. It becomes part of your account only if you then sign up.

What we do not do

  • No advertising or analytics scripts. Nothing on this site reports to anybody else.
  • No selling or renting your details.
  • One cookie: the one that keeps you signed in. It is needed for the site to work.
  • Nothing is recorded about people who are not signed in, apart from the anonymous QR scan count.

Who else handles it

Two services run the site for us. Supabase stores the accounts and the database. Vercel serves the pages. Both keep their own technical logs, such as IP addresses, under their own privacy policies. If you use Google sign-in, Google handles that step.

How long we keep it

  • Your account details are kept for as long as you have an account.
  • The record of what you read, printed and downloaded is deleted after 24 months.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself, any time, at the bottom of your account page. That deletes your name, camera, and everything recorded about your reading, straight away.

Two small records stay, both holding your email address. One notes that the account was deleted, so we can show we did it. The other exists only if you were ever an admin, and logs that change. Neither holds anything else about you.

Your rights

You can see, change or delete your details yourself, from your account page:

  • Your name and camera are shown there, and you can change them any time.
  • Your progress through the book is shown there too.
  • The delete button removes your account and your reading history.

For anything else, such as a copy of everything we hold about you, or if you can no longer sign in, send us a request. We answer within 30 days.
